24CXX Serial EEPROM programming using serial port

Hi,
I have downloaded from the net a programmer that uses serial port from the PC, also i downloaded different applications to programm the serial EEPROM (in my case I am using a 24C01 (1K EPPROM) I am able to read and write using these programas which tells me that I aseembled my programmer rigth. I want to develop my own software to program the EEPROM using Visual Basic and MSCOMM control, does anyone know what to send and in which manner to make a read operation? I have read on device data shhet that I need to send the following sequence to make a read:
Start
Device address
- Acknowledge (Device returns zero when addressed)
Data (Hi and Lo address bytes to read)
- No Acknowledge (Device sends this after a read is done)
Stop (put device under idle state)
I will be grateful if you can help me

Some device datasheets give the sequence for read operation. You can get one from http://www.kanda.com/support
